Full Description:

The Urban League offers the following services:1) Utility Deposit Referrals: will give a referral to take to the city utility department; The referral allows individuals to pay 1/3 of the utility deposit, and then get billed for the rest within the time frame of a month. In order to receive a referral, individuals must not have an outstanding balance with the utilities department. Bring a picture ID, bring proof of income (such as a pay stub), and bring a lease agreement with individual\'s name on it. (Note: Does not actually provide money for deposits); 2) Time Out Program: A referral program that deals with drugs in the schools; 3) Victim Witness Program: financial assistance for victims of crime who were injured during the crime or significant others of homicide victims. Cooperates with Crimes Compensation Office of the State of Florida to recover costs to victim. The league offers information on criminal justice system, and victim\'s rights, crisis intervention, grief/bereavement counseling, and escort services/transportation of victim to court if needed; 4) Food baskets; 5) Weatherization and minor home repairs for homeowners in Leon County; 6) Housing counseling: provides a listing and brief, basic counseling on finding low-cost permanent housing. There is a waiting list for available housing options. Length varies; 7) Basic employment services; 8) Assistance to employers in finding skilled workers for jobs; 9) Guidance for young adults toward educational programs; 10) Black on Black Crime Prevention; 11) Crime Prevention and Intervention; 12) Home acquisition program for 1st time home buyers (within Tallahassee city limits only).

ELIGIBILITY:Requirements vary according to program or service; no financial assistance available.

Serves the following areas: Jefferson, Leon, and Wakulla counties; Some programs limited to Leon County or to incorporated areas of Tallahassee.

Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.

1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
