Financial Help Provided: Emergency Assistance Programs, Government Assistance, SNAP.

Full Description:

Office Hours: Mondays through Fridays 8:30am to 4pm.

Caritas helps those in need through three programs: Emergency Assistance, which assists with basic needs such as food, prescription drugs, clothing, household items and utilities, Caritas Thrift Stores and Gifts-in-Kind. Caritas became the distribution center for the “gifts in kind” products to charitable organizations in 2004. Caritas receives a variety of items, then we distribute hundreds of thousands of pounds of paper goods and other household items to charitable organizations that serve those in need. Thousands of people are able to receive benefits because of the Gifts-in-Kind program.

The majority of Emergency Assistance recipients are residents of McLennan County, although there are no geographical limits imposed on those who receive services from Caritas. All recipients are interviewed at their first appointment by one of our staff so we can determine their needs. Emergency assistance is provided in the form of food, utilities, clothing, prescription medication and household items.

SNAP Program:

The SNAP Outreach program, created by the McLennan County Hunger Coalition and operated at Caritas of Waco, helps many individuals and families complete paperwork and qualify for federal benefits including SNAP (food stamps) and other support programs.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
