Comprehensive Emergency Assistance Program
Rent/Mortgage Assistance (Ceap)
This program is offered to low-income residents of Memphis and Shelby County whose monthly income falls below 125% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Purpose of this assistance is to provide prevention of evictions, foreclosures and/or alleviate current homelessness.
Eligible households can be served once per program year and receive up to $1000.
Potential customers may receive help with first month's rent and/or deposit which may not exceed $1000.

To qualify for this assistance, there must be an unexpected, uncontrollable circumstance that caused a reduction in income and/or an out-of-pocket expense within 120 days  that prevented the household from being able to pay rent/mortgage.
Documentation:
Social Security card/Identification for all household members
    Proof of all household income (i.e. check stubs, award letter)
    Proof of pending eviction/foreclosure
    Proof of homelessness (i.e. letter from caseworker)
    Proof of crisis/out of pocket expense
This program is offered periodically throughout the year until all funds are exhausted. Each customer must have an appointment.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
