Full Description:

The Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) of the San Bernardino County Human Services is responsible for administering the Department’s financial support programs to persons in need of financial, and/or nutritional and/or medical assistance. These programs are described below.
The goals of TAD are to meet the basic needs of families and individuals, while working with them to attain self-sufficiency, and to promote work and personal responsibility.

Food Stamp Program
The Food Stamp Program is a nutritional assistance program designed to help single people and families with little or no income to buy food. Food Stamp benefits are issued on an EBT Card that is used just like a bank card at most local food stores. The Food Stamp Program is a Federal State funded program.

General Relief (GR) program
The County General Relief (GR) program provides loan assistance to indigent individuals and families in temporary need of housing, food, and/or transportation. General Relief is the only TAD program that is totally funded, as well as administered, by the County of San Bernardino.

Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP)
The purpose of the Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) is to provide medical assistance and time-limited financial assistance to persons who flee from their countries because of persecution due to political and/or military changes in their government. Aid payments for refugees are based on CalWORKs standards.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
