Full Description:

Funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) provides an array of funding for local community initiatives, including assistance for program-eligible households in areas such as education, employment, emergencies, housing, nutrition and health care. Community programs are intended to encourage families toward self-sufficiency. CSBG programs are administered during the year by 14 Community Action Agencies located throughout South Carolina with satellite offices in all of the state's 46 counties.
Wateree Community Actions, Inc. utilizes CSBG funds to provide the following services to the community:
General Emergency Assistance Program (GEAP) - assists program-eligible households with emergencies such as but not limited to: utility bills, food, clothing, and medical services.
Youth Leadership Program - provides resources that will enhance character building and life-long learning skills, encourage students to practice leadership dynamics, and study lessons in character that foster group discussions centered on buiding leadership skills.  The program is available for youth in grades 9-12.
Youth Employment Program - provides students with an opportunity to work at neighborhood job sites within their communities during the summer.  Youth are taught employability skills and encouraged toward post-secondary education. In addition to career planning and work experience, students interact with one another and learn to address issues related to peer relationships, family, motivation, and values.
Academic Camp - serves students in grades 6-8.  This program is a three-wek academic remediation program held during the summer school break, focusing on reading, writing, and mathematics. The TABEcurriculum is used for pre and post testing to determine each student's status of improvement.
Health & Nutrition - provides health screenings free or at a reduced cost for individuals at-risk with health conditions and hygiene kits for needy households along with increasing health awareness.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
