Full Description:

Financial Help with Bills
Nashville CARES is able to provide some short-term financial help to clients with mortgage, rent and/or utility deposits, and/or bills. This assistance is generally limited to providing assistance for the following circumstances:

   1. Providing homeless clients with assistance to establish independent housing.
   2. Providing clients in the SSI/SSDI application and determination process with assistance to maintain housing.
   3. Providing clients who have HIV and/or health related problems that have reduced their income.

Clients experiencing these or other financial concerns meet with their case manager to discuss the problem(s). If CARES resources are appropriate to the client’s situation, the case manager will assist the client in gathering the needed documentation to seek assistance. If the circumstances are outside of CARES ability, the case manager will assist the client in identifying and accessing other community resources.

All decisions about providing direct financial assistance are made by the agency’s Financial Review Committee.

To prepare to discuss financial assistance with a case manager, it is helpful for clients to have copies of your current bills, documentation of personal and/or family income and any other information that supports the request. Case managers may request and help you get other needed information.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
