Full Description:

HOUSING INITIATIVE: This program is for renters only and does not include the city limits of Cedar Rapids. Eligible participants must be renters and have an eviction notice, or be homeless, or a homeowner who is losing their home and will be renting. If a person is in danger of being on the street, this program can assist with rent deposits and payments, utility deposits and payments (if denied LiHEAP), past due rent and utilities. A requirement of the program is to work with an assigned case worker who will assist the individual with their housing needs.

To be eligible for services must be homeless, or near homeless, individuals and families at imminent risk of evection and who are at 50% of median income. The household must have some type of income and individuals with Social Security or SSI may be eligible. This program is not for persons in the city limits of Cedar Rapids. Johnson County residents must be referred by a shelter.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
