We are the Board of Social Services, an organization funded by the federal and state governments and the Freeholders of Burlington County to provide services in the community.

The Board offers temporary assistance to adults and families during this time. The Board will assess your situation and help you get on your feet by either providing a service directly or referring you to an appropriate agency in the community.

TANF

Assistance may be available for your family. The Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Program offers many support services during pre and post-employment. TANF is also available to non-parents who have custody of eligible children.
We now offer services aimed at specific areas where we can assist you to become more self-sufficient and give assistance while working to overcome a temporary problem. Training for work and other support services are available. Eligibility for TANF also enables you to obtain Child Support Services, Nutritional and Medical Services.
However, you may be eligible for various support services without receiving TANF.

Emergency Assistance Services

Social Services are available for a variety of issues. Our Social Workers are able to talk with you and provide information and referrals to other agencies if we can't provide the service directly.
If you are currently receiving either TANF, SSI or GA you may be eligible for our Emergency Assistance Program that can assist you with some related housing costs in an effort to avoid homelessness.
We also provide case management, services and we can direct you to other agencies or shelters.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
