Temporary Assistance:
Primary responsibility for determining eligibility for Cash Assistance, Food Stamps, and Medical Assistance. While cases are pending determination, we assist clients with any unmet need of housing, food, medical assistance, etc. Established procedures are in place to allow clients to access services from other departments in order to maintain or establish their self-sufficiency.

Mon., Weds., Thurs., Fri. (Mornings)
Walk-in Schedule:
Mon. and Thurs. 1:00pm - 4:00pm


Temporary Assistance - Family Assistance & Safety Net
The Family Assistance and Safety Net unit is responsible for the administration of Temporary Assistance benefits. The workers manage the ongoing assistance cases and provide Cash Assistance, Food Stamps, and Medical Assistance and HEAP. Staff assist clients with emergencies and helps promote the goal of self-sufficiency through employment.

Walk-in Schedule:
Mon. and Thurs. 1:00pm - 4:00pm


Home Energy Assistance Program
Heap provides energy assistance to low income households through payments to those households' fuel and/or utility suppliers. This program also provides emergency assistance for repair or replacement of essential heating equipment and in fuel emergency situations. This program includes a twenty-four hour hotline from October through April of each year to ensure that county residents have recourse in the event of an emergency when the department is not open. Handle all referrals from utility company concerning at risk people facing shut-off.

8:30am or 1:00pm, daily except Tuesday morning

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
