Community Action has several different programs that make up the Energy Assistance Program.  Energy assistance can provide the residents of Ashtabula County with help paying their utility bills.  The assistance that is available if primarily for gas, bulk fuel or electricity, but sometimes assistance may be available for other utilities.

Energy Assistance Program assistance may either be in the form of a payment toward a current monthly bill and or setting up a plan that allows just a set amount to be paid each month based on the household income. Eligibility for these programs is usually based on the total household income.  Typically, the goal of the Energy Assistance Program is to secure continued utility service for the next thirty days, whether it is for heating in the winter or cooling in the summer.

Energy Assistance Programs are income eligibility programs.  Each program may have its own level of income that needs to be met in order to qualify.  There may also be additional eligibility criteria.  People interested in receiving Energy Assistance Program benefits can call either the office at (440) 997-5957 or 2-1-1 Ashtabula County by dialing 2-1-1 for information related to the program eligibility.

1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
