Full Description:

The Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) provides temporary rental and mortgage assistance to low-income households. These are people at imminent risk of homelessness due to an unavoidable crisis through no fault of their own.

HIP also provides security deposits and temporary rental assistance to homeless families and individuals who have found permanent housing but do not have the ability to maintain regular rent payments.

 

Qualifications

In order to be granted assistance, applicants must:

· Be experiencing temporary financial difficulties due to an unforeseen crisis

· Be in imminent danger of losing their home or are currently homeless

· Meet income limits

· Never have received HIP funding before

· Be willing to fulfill the expectations of the program

· Have used all other resources available to attempt to remedy the crisis

· Have rent or mortgage fees that meet fair market rent guidelines

· Be able to be self-sufficient after the assistance from HIP has ended

· Have a history of self-sufficiency prior to the crisis

 

How can I apply?

Mercy House accepts phone calls for HIP pre-screenings on the 15th of each month at 9:00 am. If you are found eligible to apply during the pre-screening, you will be given an appointment with the Housing Counselor to finish your application.

 

All applicants over 18 in a household must be able to submit proof of:

· Housing eligibility (lease, mortgage documents, homeless verification,   landlord letter)

· Signed lease (if renting or planning to rent)

· Financial eligibility (pay stubs, bank account information, SSI/SSDI, child   support, etc.)

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
