Financial Help Provided: Utility Assistance, Rent Assistance

Full Description:

The Emergency Assistance Program (EACI) provides financial assistance to individuals and families faced with loss of a utility service or actual eviction from their homes due to economic hardship. The program offers one-time per year voucher payments to providers of essential utility and fuel services such as electricity, water, gas, wood and oil. In collaboration with other area agencies and organizations, the program also offers mortgage or rental assistance to prevent eviction and provides relocation support as needed.

A new initiative for EACI was started during the last fiscal year entitled the “Meds Project.” This initiative provided vouchers for clients allowing them to procure much needed prescription medication and supplies. Working in conjunction with local pharmacies, this program allowed clients to prevent, manage or stabilize such ailments as hypertension, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart condition, cancer management and many other diseases and illnesses.

Additional key components of the EACI program include management and distribution of items from our food pantry, clothing closets and a household supply storage facility. Working in conjunction with local food banks and grocery stores, we are able to supply individuals and families with basic food items (boxed and canned, fresh fruits and vegetables and meats) as well as household staples (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, basic toiletries and cleaning supplies). Area churches, organizations and individuals provide in-kind donations for our clothing closets and household furniture, linen, small appliance and necessity storage facility.

Tips For Prompt And Professional Assistance
1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
