Provides energy assistance.

Direct Client Services offers limited assistance with electric and natural gas bills enabling households to become self sufficient. Assistance is available under several programs to address different energy needs (contingent on the availability of funds). The household must reside in Bexar County and have income within 125% of the Poverty Income Guideline set by the Federal Government.

Assistance is provided to low-income households that meet one of the following Priority Groups:
Elderly (60 years or older)
Disabled (unable to engage in substantial employment for a period of 12 months or longer)
Families with children 5 years of age or younger

Bexar County networks with CPS Energy for payment arrangements, energy conservation, and home energy audits. All households receive referrals to the Alamo Area Council of Governments for weatherization services.

Applicants may call for an appointment on Tuesdays after 9:00 a.m. A limited number of appointments are given each week. Applicants must give the social security number of the head of household, a telephone number and the utility bill account number. Please call (210) 335-6770 for an appointment. More conservation information can be obtained from the US Department of Energy, Texas State Energy Conservation Office, Alliance to Save Energy and Home Energy Saver websites. Children are encouraged to visit the Alliance to Save Energy website to learn energy conservation in a fun, enteractive atmosphere.

1. Make an appointment - Always attempt to make an appointment. Oftentimes this will save you hours waiting in lines. When on the phone make sure you ask for the documentation needed in order to receive assistance.

2. Do not be late for your appointment - This tip should speak for itself.

3. Dress appropriately - If you want to be treated with respect, dress as appropriately as possible. We are not saying wear a suit. Just make sure you and your clothes are clean and non offensive. We have found that clients who dress in this manner have a better chance of receiving aid.

4. Bring all pre determined documentation - Bring all of the documents you were advised to bring from your appointment phone call. Without them, you will not receive aid.
